Water is the only substance that we cannot live without. If you stay somewhere where there is no water, you could survive up to 72 hours. Without food, people can live seven more days, but this period will not be the most sophisticated one. It is clear that without water, we are completely helpless and our bodies simply begin to die down. Due to that, regular intake of water should be one of the main nutrition rules for each and every human.

Vital for smooth body functions

If you drink enough water per day, you will ensure the main participant in all the important body functions and processes. The exact amount of water is something individual, but scientists claim that you should drink at between six and ten 8-ounce glasses per day. That amount will keep your body in a good shape and maintain most of the body functions. For instance, without water, your kidneys are not able to purify all the harmful substances that roam through your body. In addition, your brain does not function well if you are dehydrated. When being at work, the lack of concentration may lead to serious mistakes and damage. If not drinking enough water, you can actually become quite a risk-causing person, even without knowing it.

Exercise demands more water

If you are physically active, e.g. going to the gym, jogging, or long bike rides, you should definitely drink more water than people who do not take part in such activities. If you want to run three or four miles, you should drink water before the jogging session, during it and after the session. The same goes for other strenuous physical exercises.

Apart from water, it is also recommended that you take other drinks, too, such as tea and sports drinks. However, be careful when it comes to sports drinks, because some of them are only called that way, while they are actually full of sugar. Use only the drinks that have ions and which are recommended by training experts.

Although the authorities keep convincing us that the water from city water supply systems is meticulously tested and that there are no harmful microorganisms in it, you should not take that for granted. Urban areas cannot have as clean water as it is in the country. Too many pollutants affect the quality of water in the city. Due to that, you should use water purifiers, i.e. water filters to prevent these harmful substances from entering your body. That way, you will decrease the amount of lead that gets into the body and also minimize other unwanted bacteria and organisms. Also, purified water is often more tasteful than ordinary tapped water, since it is cleaned from bad-smelling sulfur and other chemicals. If you decide to install water filters in your home, consult with a professional plumber to help you choose the right one.

Stay rational with water

Water should be treated with greatest respect. Since the Earth is already overcrowded, future conflicts caused by the lack of water are inevitable. Because of that, water should be saved and never wasted. If you stay rational with water and take care of the amount of water you spend without any real need, the whole community will have more drinking water and, from that, better quality of life.
