Cats who have been deemed as having five lives, and worshiped by Egyptians in ancient times, may very well have a good reason behind both of these things. Scientific research has shown that cats have an ability that is rather interesting, and that could be the reason they have been glorified so much.

A self-healing capability has been discovered within the feline community. Scientists have shown that the purr is not only a sign of pleasure, but also a way of regeneration of the body and a way to heal themselves when injured. The purr has been shown to recover their bones and organs while also increasing their density. This research would surely debunk the myth that cats only purr when they are happy and content, as cats purr when in danger, while giving birth, and when they are harmed. This would indicate that the purr would be a means of survival. Cats in ancient times avoided harm, and lived through much more than was expected. Based on this, the “all cats have 9 lives” myth came into being.

Could it be that cats inspired vibratory healing, such as ultrasound? The sistrum, a sacred percussion instrument used in Egypt by priestesses for ritual, produces massive amounts of ultrasound, a technology that continues to be useful in hospitals and Dr’s offices now. This technology has even been shown to treat cystic fibrosis and certain forms of cancer. Based on this information it is entirely possible that the sistrum was used for healing, and not just for ritual, and if that is true cats inspired a system of healing that we continue to use today.

This form of alternative medicine that is found in vibratory healing much like the cats purr could help us further our research in musical healing as well as mantra healing. Mantras are powerful sounds that produce vibration, and are thought to be holistic healing devices that are produced through our own mouths. Mantras are typically used in meditation, but can actually be used throughout the day, at whatever point in the day. If vibrations help cats, and are produced by healing technology such as ultrasound, then mantras could prove helpful and as healing devices as well. With further research, who knows what we could discover in the healing world? Surely science can use this new discovery to research all sorts of new healing processes that will be useful to mankind, thus making cats the inspiration for much to come in the medical and holistic world!
